Why does the first time take a moment?
The first time, your browser downloads the voice model once: about 90 MB (English) or 140 MB (Spanish) on a phone, and 310 or 380 MB on a computer with a graphics card, which then speaks many times faster. After that it is stored on your device and starts instantly, even without a connection.
Which languages are there?
English, with American and British voices, and Spanish, with ten voices. More languages are on the way.
Can I use the audio and videos commercially?
Yes. The English voices come from Kokoro (Apache 2.0) and the Spanish ones from Supertonic (OpenRAIL-M); both allow commercial use and you don't need to credit this site. The Spanish voices' licence asks that you label what you publish as AI-generated (TikTok, Instagram and YouTube have a switch for it) and never use them to impersonate or deceive anyone.
Is it slower on a phone?
Yes. On a computer with a graphics card, a minute of speech takes a few seconds. Phones and computers without one work it out on the processor, roughly as fast as the audio plays, so long texts may pause briefly between sentences.
Can I caption a video I already have?
Yes. Drop the video or audio anywhere on the page (or press "Caption a video"). It is transcribed on your device, word by word, and you get the captions, the editor and the export. Nothing is uploaded, and the first time it downloads the transcriber once.
How are the captions timed?
Each sentence is timed from the real audio, and words are spread across it by length. It is close, not perfect, so the editor lets you fix any line.
